2013 World Laser Standard Championship
2013 World Laser Masters Championship

Bid Deadline: 01 December 2009

Preferred Region: Asia

Once completed, please email your bid documents to office@laserinternational.org

Details.

The World Council have advised the preferred grouping of championships for 2013 which would group the World Laser Standard Championship with the World Laser Masters Championship, and would welcome bids from the preferred region - Asia.

A successful bid would be either from a host club that could cater for all of the championships or from a group of host clubs in the same area, that could cater for the grouped championships. Grouped championships could run in any number of successive weeks, with or without time in between the championships. Where a group of host clubs propose to work together, the distance between clubs will be taken into consideration as the economic and time costs involved in transporting boats between clubs may affect the maximum use of consecutive charters. The responsibility of transporting and storing charter boats between championships lies with the host clubs and should be included in any budget calculation. Also, it is not viable for charter boats to be left for any extended period of time in between the championships.

Any club who would like to submit a bid for a championship but is not located in North America should contact the ILCA office before proceeding.

The Requirements Documents (below) give details for the organisation of a World Laser Standard Championship and a World Laser Masters Championship. Intended to assist you in the preparation, planning and making a bid to host the World Championship - you will find information, guidelines and requirements included.

The World Laser Standard Senior Championship.

The World Laser Standard Senior Championship is a highly competitive event that has a restricted entry. An ILCA allocated championship with a mandatory charter and an entry limited to 180 competitors. Hosts would need to provide a pre charter period of 7 days in advance of the championship. The championship itself is run over ten days the championship is made up of three days for registration and measurement followed by four days of qualifications and then three days of finals before a prize giving ceremony.

The World Laser Masters Championship.

The Laser Masters World Championships is an extremely popular event that has grown significantly in recent years. The Masters is an allocated championship with an optional charter and an age limitation requiring entrants to be 35 years or older. Entry numbers vary dependent upon location. Run over nine days the championship is made up of two days for registration and measurement followed by three days of competition a rest day and then a further three days of racing before a prize giving ceremony.

With an expected high number of competitors travelling to the Masters championship and the necessity for charter boats for most sailors ILCA will favourably consider hosts that can accommodate two consectutive Masters championships allowing a higher entry of upto 400 sailors (around 200 per each week). If run as a single championship entry is likely to be upto 250 sailors.
