World Laser Masters Championship 2007

SPAIN, Roses

The World Laser Masters Championship is an open event. The Championship will be held separately for the Standard Rig and Laser Radial Rig and for each category. In order to compete in an age category the competitors shall have attained before 29 September 2007 their:

35th birthday to enter:

the Apprentice Laser Standard Category
the Apprentice Laser Radial Category

45th birthday to enter:

the Masters Laser Standard Category
the Masters Laser Radial Category

55th birthday to enter:

the Grand Masters Laser Standard Category
the Grand Masters Laser Radial Category

65th birthday to enter:

the Great Grand Masters Laser Radial Rig fleet

Proof of age was required at registration.

Charter Boats

Charter boats cost £410 (GBP) plus a refundable £150 (GBP) damage deposit, with boats available on-site from 27 September.

There is a commercial bus operator who provides transport from Girona Airport to Roses.

Driving in Spain
For all those people who plan to tow their boats to the Masters, you should make yourself aware of the local driving laws in Spain. Below is a link to a useful web page that details some basics and it includes information on towing and the requirements. For anyone intending to transport boats on the roof of their vehicle please pay particular attention to the last paragraph which covers objects that protrude beyond your vehicle.

Motor Home Parking:

There are not facilities at the club for parking of motor homes. However the club has negotiated a special 60% discount with a camp site within walking distance of the club. To get your discount please telephone the camp site on +34 972256702 explaining your attendance at the championship.

Early arrival:

If you plan to arrive earlier than the start of the event, you can use the club's facilities free of charge. However, if you wish to park inside the Port of Roses, you will need to pay the standard parking fees (1.5€ per hour). However parking is available on teh road out side the port free of charge.

About the Venue

Roses is an attractive and popular holiday resort of approximately 15000 population. The old town with small streets, shops and restaurants is immediately behind the marina and blends well with the more recent accommodation areas just along the beach.

It is situated 19 miles from the French border and is within one of 5 natural protected parks. It has a number of different accommodation possibilities including camping, apartments and hotels in total over 6000 beds with prices from 22 euros per night (discounted rates will be published with the notice of race with flexible booking dates).

Barcelona International Airport is 162 km away and the regional airports of Girona. ESP (73 km) and Perpignan FRA (83km) are served by low cost airlines to major European cities.

There are a number of local tourist attractions nearby with further possibilities in the city of Barcelona. (see various websites below)

40% thermal+gradient wind ENE (6 to 15 knots.12:00h at 18:00 h)
10% gradient wind N (12 to 25 knots 10:00h at 20:00 h)

The picture below shows the new marina at Roses. The yacht club is based on the left hand corner of the Marina adjacent to the beach. Launching is from the protected beach and the marina using ramps from the yacht club.
