European Men's Laser Standard Championship 2007 Reports

More photos

Only one race completed for the youth at the Laser Europeans on Thursday.

In Hyeres, France, the first day of the finals at the Laser Standard Senior and Youth European Championship was frustrating as total cloud cover prevented the sea breeze from building.

After a delay ashore the two Race Committees sent both fleets out to their respective course areas in hope of using a small breeze that arrived late in the day. On the senior course all three senior groups were started but then abandoned after a large wind shift signalled the end of the wind. On the youth course there was slightly better wind and the two youth fleets completed one race in light winds and were then sent ashore to allow the seniors the opportunity of a start on the youth race area.

The senior gold was the only fleet to start on their new course area and unfortunately their race was once again abandoned after only two legs.

Two races are scheduled for the final day. The forecast is for continued light winds but less cloud cover and a better chance of a sea breeze.
