Michail Aristeidis (GRE) wins championship
Wojciech Zemke (POL) went into the last day of racing with a 9 point score and an 11 point gap to the rest of the fleet, but after a disappointing two races with a 20th and a 25th place, he had to concede the championship title to Michail Aristeidis from Greece, who with a 4th place and DNF score was able to take the crown. Aristeidis is the 2009 European Laser Radial Men's Champion. Zemke still finished in a very respectable second place overall with 29 points, five points behind Aristeidis. Third place went to Ben Koppelaar from Nehterlands who after a 3rd and 10th place on the last day finished the championship with 33 points.
Finals Series begins
Today started with light winds and clouds in the sky. Racing was started but had to be abandoned due to light winds and strong currents. After the race officers moved the course closer to the shore, racing finally got underway in the afternoon in the newly assigned gold and silver fleets. Wojciech Zemke (POL) further extended his lead over the remaining fleet today with yet another great performance, winning both races back to back. With only 9 points, he sits 11 points ahead of the remaining fleet. Michail Aristeidis (GRE) also had a great day scoring a 2nd and a 3rd place and so pushed ahead from fourth into second place overall with 20 points. Currently in third place overall sits Michal Gryglewski (POL) who after a DNS and 15th place was able to stay in the top three with 27 points.
No wind in Charlottenlund
Despite long hours of waiting and hoping, the wind did not pick up and all racing was cancelled for today.
The third day of the championship was cloudy with a 5 m/s south westerly wind. In the red fleet, Polish sailor Wojciech Zemke continued strong and took the first race win. Even with a (discarded) 6th place finish in the second race, he remains in the overall lead on an impressive 7 points. Hot on his tail was Jon Emmett (GBR) who had a fantastic day today with 2nd and 1st place finish and who now moves into third place overall on 11 points. Another strong contender in the red fleet was Russian Ivan Zotov today, who scored two 3rd place finishes and so performs a massive jump from 29th to 13th place overall. Antoine Coadou from France, who scored 2nd place in the second race, moves from yesterday's 13th place to 11th place overall today.
In the blue fleet, Michail Gryglewski (POL) delivered another strong performance with a 1st and 2nd place and so moved up into second place overall on 9 points. The second race win was taken by fellow Polish sailor Filip Kobielski.
Racing on the second day had to be delayed due to light winds and races finally started in the early afternoon. The fleets have been reassigned and Wojciech Zemke (POL) delivered another magnificent performance, scoring 2 bullets in the blue fleet and pushing ahead of Michail on the overall leader board with with 3 points. Michail also had a good day, scoring two 2nd places in the red fleet and so currently sits in 2nd place overall with 5 points. The first race win in the red fleet went to Jon Emmett (GBR), while the second race win was claimed by Nik Pletikos from Slovenia. Michal Gryglewski maintained his 3rd place overall after scoring a 2nd and 3rd place, while Emmett moved up the leader board to 4th place with 8 points, ahead of Ben Koppelaar (NED), also on 8 points.
Racing begins in Charlottenlund
The competitors were divided into blue and red fleets and racing got underway around midday on Saturday. In the blue fleet, Polish Michal Gryglewski took the lead early on in the race but was pushed into second place by Wojciech Zemke who worked his way forward to claim the first race win. Third place went to Jon Emmett from Great Britian. In the red fleet, Greek sailor Aristeidis claimed the race win, followed by Ben Koppelaar from the Netherlands and Teemu Rentanen (FIN) in third place.
The second race of the day saw both Danish Magnus Kaeldso and Czech Vitkor Teply claim the race win in their respective fleets. At the end of the first day of racing, Michail sits in first place with 3 points after a second place in race two, followed by Zemke and Gryglewski, both on 4 points.
The first 2 days of the championship were filled with registration and measurement, followed by an opening ceremony on the Friday.
